The Oscar nominations are out! Hugo leads the nominations with 11. The Artist is just behind with 10. The have thrown a few surprises in the mix though. Most notably in the Best Original Screenplay, Best Animated Feature, and Best Picture categories. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close got a nomination for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Max von Sydow. Another surprise was that Terence Malick wasn’t snubbed completely and came out with a fair few nominations for The Tree of Life. The Iranian Golden Globe winning feature A Separation managed to nab a nomination in the Best Original Screenplay category. Weird, I know. That doesn’t usually happen. Also, the Best Animated Feature has been the most shocking with A Cat in Paris and Chico & Rita winning nominations and Arthur Christmas and the Golden Globe winning The Adventures of Tintin losing out on it (the latter because of the Academy’s motion capture rules). Shocking, I tell you! Our own Michael Fassbender was snubbed. Guess the Academy couldn’t handle the sexiness. Also, Young Adult was totally snubbed. Does not like!
